Coimbatore: Marking a significant milestone in its India growth strategy, ZF Group has inaugurated its 19th manufacturing facility in the country – the ZF Group Coimbatore Plant.
Strategically focused on localizing axles and transmissions for construction equipment and railway applications, the new facility underscores ZF’s long-term commitment to India’s mobility and industrial sectors.
Spanning over 10,000 square meters, the state-of-the-art facility is ZF’s latest investment to advance its “Make in India for India and the World” agenda. With a capital infusion of €20 million (approximately ₹192 crore), the Coimbatore plant will serve as a global manufacturing hub catering to both domestic demand and export markets.
ZF Group Coimbatore Plant: Localized Solutions for Construction and Railways
The new facility will industrialize the ERGOPOWER M automatic transmission, a market benchmark known for its high performance and up to 15% fuel efficiency gains, tailored for a wide range of construction machinery. The MULTITRAC axle series, also localized here, offers high torque capacity in a compact, lightweight design optimized for demanding off-highway applications.
Further, the plant will localize production of EcoMet metro gearboxes for the Indian railway sector. With a modular architecture, the EcoMet is designed to reduce costs while offering flexibility across metro platforms, making it a game-changer for India’s urban rail networks.
“With the inauguration of the ZF Group Coimbatore Plant, we strengthen our footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic markets,” said Dr Peter Laier, Member of the Board of Management, ZF Group. “This facility is part of our strategy to be closer to customers and accelerate innovation through local manufacturing.”
Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India, emphasized: “India is pivotal to our global strategy. Our Coimbatore plant showcases ZF’s focus on localization, job creation, and technological excellence. It supports our dual vision – Make in India for India and Make in India for the World.”
“Rapid urbanization and infrastructure development are creating new demands,” added Andreas Moser, EVP, Industrial Technology, ZF Group. “The Coimbatore facility, in coordination with our German operations, is set to support the future growth of the global construction and rail equipment markets.”
Export Hub & Talent Generator
The ZF Group Coimbatore Plant not only enhances local supply chain resilience but also strengthens ZF’s ability to export world-class technology to global OEMs. The facility is equipped to scale up production as needed and is poised to become a critical hub for innovation, localization, and sustainable manufacturing.
This investment reinforces ZF Group’s broader commitment to India’s growth story – from engineering and manufacturing to mobility innovation – positioning the country as a key player in the global value chain.
